The United States is the only country in the world that has a fail-safe mechanism built into the political / election system.
Once the political party system has become corrupted, without a fail-safe, it is easy for the people to get locked out of the process. Our 2016 election is an example of this, where neither of the candidates are trustworthy.
The fail-safe is the right to write in the name of a candidate that is more deserving, and may not be a part of the traditional political party establishment.
All we have to do, is nominate deserving candidates (tweet @writeitin2016 with #writeitin #nomination), and then respectfully choose one.
And then, on election day, write it in.
The obvious hurdle
The existing political establishment is not going to take this lying down.
They will challenge the legality of this whole effort, and will throw the book at us. All the technicalities (like deadlines to submit candidatures etc) will be used to make this write in ineffective.
We must expect, and prepare for this.
Despite these odds, it is important to do this. The conversation must be started.
Some action is better than to sit by idly, and let recent history perpetuate itself.
The plan is simple: on election day, if the mood of the country is that the write-in process will work, and the WriteItIn.org poll numbers support it, then do the write-in.
And then, afterwards, hold whoever in office accountable to the people. There’s a process for that, and we the people won’t let up.
For now, first things first. Do the right thing. Help make history.
